Modern School is one of the most sought after schools in the city. The School has a long history
dating back to 20th October 1920 when Lala Raghubir Singh founded the school with the
aid of his father who gave him Rs 5000/- and a rent free house in Daryaganj to start the school.
The school functioned out of Daryaganj till 4th Jan 1933 when it shifted to Barakhamba
Road. Subsequently the junior school was shifted to a new building in Humayun Road in October 1961
and renamed as the Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School (RSJMS). RSJMS is a completely autonomous unit
that functions independently. Students study in RSJMS till Class V and subsequently at Modern School
Barakhamba Road. The management subsequently opened another school at Vasant Vihar. Both the schools at Barakhamba Road and Vasant Vihar have a very distinguished alumni list with ex- students featuring in the top ranks of industrialists, professionals and politicians. The alumni networks of both the schools are very old as is evidenced by the fact that the schools are the only ones in Delhi whose application forms have separate columns for parent and grandparent alumni details. |

| All three units of Modern School are extremely well equipped
in terms of facilities. Facilities at the RSJMS include a spacious auditorium and hall; the Mohini
Virendra Singh library with over 8000 bar and Dewey Decimal coded titles; a resource center for audio-
visual instruction that is equipped with LCD TV, projectors and computers; a medical room with a
resident doctor responsible for annual check ups of all children; 3 computer labs with 22 networked
multi-media machines each; an art room and 2 clay rooms. Modern School Barakhamba Road is located on a massive 25 acre plot and is perhaps the largest school in the city. The facilities here include a technology block with departments for ceramic design and pottery, electronics and robotics, fashion and jewelry design, home science and interiors, photography, print making, sculpture and woodcraft, music, dance and dramatics. The school has two libraries- one junior and the Lala Pratap Singh Library for seniors. The school has a unique CD library with educational, game and entertainment titles. The sports infrastructure is excellent and includes two turf cricket fields with seven covered practice pitches, six tennis courts, two squash courts and an Olympic size pool. The school also offers a hostel facility for outstation students. The Facilities at Modern School Vasant Vihar include an air- conditioned library; science and computer laboratories; specialized labs for robotics, biotechnology, multimedia and web technology; an auditorium and AV rooms; art, dance and music rooms and a clinic. On the sports side facilities for nearly all field games as well as swimming are available. |
| Age Criteria and Seats in 2023-2024 |
| The school made admissions to both the Pre- School and Pre- Primary classes in 2023-2024. Modern School Vasant Vihar had a total of 120 seats for Pre- School and 25 seats in Pre- Primary class. RSJMS had a total of 180 seats for Pre- School and 72 seats in Pre- Primary class. The minimum age for eligibility was 3 years as on 31/03/2023 for Pre- School and 4 years as on 31/03/2023 for Pre- Primary. |
