Sardar Patel Vidyalaya

Sardar Patel Vidyalaya was set up by the Gujarat Education Society (GES) in 1958 to propagate the ideals of Sardar Patel. The school is widely respected for its unique value based education system and its activity oriented teaching methodology. One of the distinct features of the school is its bi- lingual system whereby instruction is imparted in both Hindi and English. Concepts such as recycling and respect for the environment are built into student activities from a very early stage.

The school is strong both on the academic and sports fronts. It has a reputation for producing a disproportionate number of Rhodes scholars- in 2006 three of the five Rhodes scholars from India were from the school; in 2005 two of the six Rhodes scholars were from the school. On the sports front its students have toured England every summer since 1985 to play cricket and it has contributed six players to the Indian cricket team. The school is also the alma mater of the grandchildren of past Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and A.B. Vajpayee.

Sardar Patel Vidyalaya is located in a lush green campus that has over a 1000 trees. The school has all required facilities such as large auditorium; well equipped labs for physics, chemistry, biology and home science; science and mathematics activity centers; two computer labs; a library with 20000+ volumes; art and music rooms; a woodcraft workshop and clay modeling, batik and ikebana studios. The school has a well-equipped First Aid Clinic cum Medical Room.

The playgrounds have facilities for cricket, football, volleyball, badminton and basketball. The school has an Olympic size artificial climbing wall. There is a skating rink and cricket nets with cemented and turf pitches. A new sports complex housing a gymnasium, table tennis tables, badminton courts, chess and carom tables has just come up. This complex is also used for theatre activities.

The school accepted registrations to the Nursery i.e. Pre- School class in 2023-2024. Children born between 01/03/2019 and 31/03/2020 were eligible for admission. The total number of seats available was 100. The breakup of seats was as follows- Linguistic minority category- 25; Staff category- 4; EWS category- 4; Promotion of inclusive education category- 4; Management quota- 20 and General category- 43.

The admission criteria used by the school were as below-

Neighborhood	40 points. Students residing within 8 km get 40 points, those within 8 and 10 km get 38 points, those within 10 and 12 km get 30 points, those residing within 12 and 14 km get 25 points, those residing within 14 and 15 km get 20 points while those residing more than 15 km away get 0 points.
Sibling	25 points. Candidates with a sibling studying in the school are awarded 25 points.
Alumni	20 points. Applicants are awarded 10 points if either parent has studied in the school and 20 points if both parents have studied in the school. To avail these points the parent must have studied in the school for at least 4 years and passed the class Xth or XIIth exam from the school.
First born	15 points. First-born children are awarded 15 points.
Total	100 points.

The school requires that successful applicants produce the following original documents for verification.

Birth Certificate issued by the Municipal Corporation.
Proof of residential address- voter I card/ electricity bill/ passport/ Aadhar card etc.
For alumni cases- school leaving certificate or board mark sheet/ proof of having studied in the school for at least 4 years.
Proof in support of claim for Gujarat/ Sibling category.
Proof in support of other claims made in the application.

The cutoff for admission in 2023-2024 was at 55 points.

The stream toppers in 2019-2020 were - Science- 97.8%; Commerce- 97.8%; Humanities- 97.8%. 102 of the 149 students who appeared scored more than 90% in the aggregate.
